Gary Lynn Cook, age 69,of Elizabeth City, NC died Monday, August 23, 2021 at his residence.
Born in Scottfield, IL on September 1, 1951 to the late Gilbert Scott Cook and Edna Potter Cook Keel, he was the husband of Norma Newton Cook of the home.
He was a member of Freedom Baptist Ministries where he served as a Deacon. He retired from the Department of Corrections with twenty-seven years of service. He was also a Mason in the Eureka Lodge of Elizabeth City. Gary enjoyed many years officiating youth sports and he was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Casey Cook Byrum (David) and Jennifer Cook Simpson (Josh), all of Elizabeth City, NC; a son, Christopher Edward Collier (Jessica) of Max Meadow, VA; a sister, Odessa Jones (Roger) of Vanceboro, NC; a brother, Gilbert Scott Cook, Jr. “Bussy” of Stacey, NC; and his grandchildren, Sydnee, Adalynn, Harper, Haiven, Grant, Gabby, Gavin, and Gage. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Cary Lynn Cook.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Pastor Chad Thomas officiating.
