Funeral procession today honors Dare MedFlight’s chief pilot

Local first responders will honor Dare MedFlight chief pilot Chad Jones today starting a 1 p.m. with a funeral procession from the Wright Brothers National Memorial to Manteo.

With restrictions placed on gatherings due to COVID-19, loved ones and colleagues are unable to hold a celebration of life, but they have found a way to honor him and are asking the public to join in.

Weather permitting, Dare MedFlight will land at the First Flight Airstrip at the memorial at 1 p.m. with Chad’s son Caleb and Chad’s remains.

At that time, there will be a final radio call for Chad and a procession will begin at First Flight Airstrip, up Colington Road to U.S. 158, and along the bypass back to the Dare MedFlight hangar in Manteo.

Dare County EMS is inviting the public to line the streets with with public safety partners to say farewell to Chad.

If you wish to participate, please remember to distance at least 6 feet apart from one another along the route.
