A freeze warning is in effect for the Outer Banks from midnight to 9 a.m. Wednesday.
An cold front will cross the area late tonight with Arctic high pressure building over the area Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City forecast office.
The very cold air invading the region behind the front will cause sub-freezing lows for the Outer Banks, with temperatures ranging from 29 to 32 degrees and gusty winds causing wind chills in the 15- to 20-degree range.
