The National Park Service is moving from a concessioner contract to a lease for the Avon Fishing Pier on Hatteras Island, and officials are looking for someone to take over.
The pier has been operated under a concession contract by Koru Village since 2014. The contract requires the concessioner to run the fishing pier with related merchandising. Koru Village also owns adjacent property, including the access road and parking lot.
The Koru Village contract ends on Dec. 31, or until the effective date of a new contract, whichever comes first.
The pier was built and began operating in 1964. The property consists of a 2,213-square foot pier house and the wooden fishing pier, which is approximately 666 feet long. Seashore property in this area is limited to the ocean beach.
The lease premises do not have or include an access road, parking area, or septic system. Applicants to the request for proposals must provide their plans for providing visitor access to the premises, as well as plans to provide any support facilities they determine to be necessary for pier operations.
The National Park Service seeks a lessee for Avon Fishing Pier in order to:
- Enable continued use of the Lease Premises for pier fishing and associated services; and
- Provide regular maintenance and upkeep of the lease premises, including both the pier and pier house.
