Manteo artist Fay Davis Edwards has been selected for Dare County Arts Council’s 2019 People’s Choice Exhibit from a field of over two dozen talented artists across a range of media.

“I’m certain I speak for everyone at DCAC when I say how excited I am to see the new directions that Fay has taken her work after completing her master’s degree,” said Dare County Arts Council Executive Director Chris Sawin. “Fay has so many fans here – I’m sure this will be an exhibit that everyone will want to mark on their calendars.”

Fay has been pursuing her Masters in Fine Art at Maine College of Art (MECA) in the heart of the Portland’s Art District for the last two years. She is currently working on her thesis and preparing to graduate in May.

“My studies at MECA have been extremely challenging and rewarding, and I can see how my approach to art making has grown considerably during my time in Portland,” said Fay Davis Edwards. “There is so much to share and I am excited to come home with a fresh perspective and new connections.”

The People’s Choice Exhibit will be titled “Watermarks” and will have a diverse selection of Fay’s mixed media, photography and paintings. Fay says she also hopes to include a projection/film from her thesis exhibition at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Portland in the installation at DCAC.

“This is incredible news and just so wonderful,” said Edwards. “Truly, I am honored. We’ve got some seriously amazing artists in our area, so being selected for this is just beyond fantastic.”

The month-long exhibit will have an opening reception on Friday, November 1 at 6pm, where the community will be able to meet Fay and view her work. The reception is free and open to the public.

The show will be on display in Dare County Arts Council’s Gallery in downtown Manteo November 1-26.

Dare County Arts Council started the People’s Choice Exhibit in 2018 as a way to build awareness of both established and emerging artists in Dare County. Hatteras Island photographer Daniel Pullen was the 2018 People’s Choice artist.

DCAC’s 2019 gallery exhibits that open on First Friday are sponsored by The Town of Manteo, Atlantic Elevators, Manteo Rotary Club, Kitty Hawk Kites, Outer Banks Ace Hardware, The White Doe Inn and Holiday House Weddings.
