Drowning incident in Snug Harbor currently under investigation

The Perquimans 911 Center received multiple calls for a possible drowning near the Snug Harbor Community Park located on Navajo Trail on Monday, July 4, 2022 at 12:44 p.m.

Upon arriving on scene, responders immediately began searching the water on foot and coordinating grid searches. Marine 37 of Hertford Fire Department and Water Rescue 2 of Perquimans County Emergency Services both responded to assist in trying to locate the subject using sonar. Multiple other personal vessels also assisted in the search.

At 2:30 p.m., the subject was found deceased.

Safety Officer Alan Corprew of Bethel Fire Department provided Incident Command per established National Incident Management System (NIMS) guidelines.

Responding agencies included the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office, Bethel Fire Department, Hertford Fire Department, Perquimans County EMS, the Perquimans County Water Rescue Team, Perquimans County Emergency Management, and North Carolina Wildlife.

Hertford County Emergency Management, North Carolina Emergency Management, and the United States Coast Guard also responded and were cancelled en route to the scene.

The incident is under investigation by North Carolina Wildlife.
