Dr. Kenneth J. Tompkins

Dr. Kenneth J. Tompkins of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021. Son of deceased Alphonse and Sadie Tompkins, he is survived by his former wife, Kimberly Tompkins, daughters Kendall and Lindsay and son Kyle; predeceased by brother Jerome Tompkins (Donna) of Media, PA; survived by sisters Cecilia Hegyi (Albert) of Southport, CT; Constance Tompkins McCole of San Francisco, CA; Kathryn Hammond (Dennis) of Wilmington, DE; and Dolores Herb (James) of West Chester, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born September 22, 1956, in Chester, PA and raised in Media, PA, Ken attended Archmere Academy in Delaware, graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley, then graduated from Philadelphia’s Jefferson Medical College, where he scored in the top 2% nationally on the board exams.
Following an internship at Tripler Army Medical in Honolulu, HI, he became a flight surgeon at Camp Humphries in Korea. Ken did his residency in dermatology at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, where he authored and co-authored many articles in professional journals.
A board-certified dermatologist, in 1994, he started practicing and opened Tidewater Skincare and Pathology with offices throughout Virginia and North Carolina; Ken was the only dermatologist in the Outer Banks for nearly eight (8) years.

He loved spending time with his beloved dogs Chopper, Dude and Sadie. With an insatiable zest for life, he loved exploring the world with his children whom he adored, as well as boating, fishing, exercising, and investing.

Hours of visitation will be Sunday, August 29 from 6-8pm at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home at 1264 N. Great Neck Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 30 at 11am at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church at 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd. with interment at Princess Anne Memorial Park immediately following.
