Dorothy Hazel Hubley

Dorothy Hazel Hubley, 96, of Manteo, NC passed away peacefully Sunday, October 24, 2021, at her home surrounded by family. Born in Boston, MA on November 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Irene Mathieu and Joseph Brennan. Dorothy attended Manteo Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Christine Jones (Terry) of Manteo, NC; a son, Mark Hubley (Susan Mende) of Lothian, MD; two daughters-in-law, Debbi Hubley and Ozdem Hubley Lord; six grandchildren, Keith Hubley, Kevin Hubley (Rebecca), Jennifer Jones Keeney (Jeff), Brian Jones (Cecilia), Robert Hubley, and Nicolas Hubley; and five great-grandchildren, Parker, Mahala, William, Elliott, and Desmond.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (B0b) E. Hubley; a son, Robert E. Hubley; and a brother, David Brennan.

Dorothy, or Dot as everyone knew her, was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed being a homemaker, but as soon as her children entered school she began working as a receptionist for a local dentist and, later, for a local physician. She loved staying active and being with friends. She was an excellent Bridge player, and she took up golf when her husband retired and they moved to Ocean Pines, MD.

After her husband passed away, Dot moved to Manteo, NC to live with her daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. She never met a stranger; she was soon invited to join a ladies Bridge club that played together weekly for almost 20 years. Dot became involved in many church activities, including a weekly Bible study, and various exercise classes offered for seniors by the county. The activity that Dot seemed to enjoy most was volunteering at the Manteo Hotline thrift store, which she did for 15 years. She also looked forward to spending time with her son, Mark, and his family in Maryland each spring and fall.

In the summer of 2018, the difficult decision to move to Spring Arbor Assisted Living was made. It took a while for Dot to get adjusted to her new home, but she made friends quickly and took advantage of the many activities provided. The staff was amazing and showed Dot compassion and wonderful care. Dot was loved there by staff and residents for her sweet disposition, positive attitude, and quick sense of humor.

Dot will be remembered as a kind, selfless, generous, smart, strong, witty woman who loved the Lord and her family and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 12,2021 at Manteo Baptist Church. Guests are kindly asked to wear masks during the celebration service.

Twiford Funeral Homes, Outer Banks is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.TwifordFH.com.
