Did you know that an average supply of diapers can cost approximately $80 per month for families with young children? Did you know that safety net programs such as WIC and SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) cannot be used to purchase diapers?
Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County (CYP) recognizes that diaper need is a problem for families in Dare County, and has set out to collaborate with our community to address it through CYP’s Diaper Bank – a Change for the Better.
CYP is excited to announce its upcoming contactless Diaper Pick-Up, to be held for two days, on Tuesday, July 13 through Wednesday, July 14 from 9:30am-6:00pm at the Center for CYP in Manteo. During this event, Dare County families will be able to receive free diapers to help with their diapering needs. While supplies last, diaper sizes available are newborn to size six, with a limit of two packs of diapers per family.
To receive free diapers through CYP’s contactless Pick-Up, families will arrive at the Center for CYP, located at 534 Ananias Dare Street in Manteo. Families will call the CYP office at 252-441-0614 to let them know their size needs, and will remain in their vehicles. A CYP staff member will bring the needed diapers to a table outside, and return to the office. Families can then get out of their vehicles to get their diapers from the table. A drive-thru pick-up event will also be held Wednesday, July 28, from 12 to 5 p.m. at Kitty Hawk Baptist Church, 3946 N. Croatan Highway.
Kitty Hawk Baptist Church will also be giving away free bread, rolls, and sweet breads through their Manna Ministry during this time. If you are interested in participating, you will need to park and go inside after receiving your diapers. You are not required to participate to receive diapers.
CYP has held nearly two dozen diaper distribution events since launching CYP’s Diaper Bank in May 2020. But these events would not have been possible without the support of the Outer Banks Community Foundation and several other individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community.
