Did you know that an average supply of diapers can cost approximately $80 per month for families with young children? Add in the cost of regular monthly bills, housing, groceries, and child care, and many families are left struggling to make ends meet from paycheck to paycheck.
Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County (CYP) recognizes that diaper need is a problem for families in Dare County, and has set out to collaborate with our community to address it through CYP’s Diaper Bank – a Change for the Better. Since launching in May of 2020, CYP has held thirteen diaper distribution events with the help of the Outer Banks Community Foundation and several other individuals, businesses, and organizations. Through these free distribution events, CYP provides diapers to over 100 families in Dare County each month.
For the month of March, CYP is excited to announce two separate diaper distribution events (one in Manteo and one in Buxton) where families will be able to receive free diapers to help with their diapering needs. By providing two events, families will have the opportunity to choose the option that works best for their family. While supplies last, diaper sizes available at both events are newborn to size six, with a limit of two packs of diapers per family.
The first of these free events will be CYP’s contactless Diaper Pick-Up on Tuesday, March 9-Wednesday, March 10 from 9:30am-6:00pm at the Center for CYP in Manteo (please note that this event will be held for TWO days). At this event, families will arrive at the Center for CYP, located at 534 Ananias Dare Street in Manteo. Families will call the CYP office at 252-441-0614 to let them know their size needs, and will remain in their vehicles. A CYP staff member will bring the needed diapers to a table outside, and return to the office. Families can then get out of their vehicles to get their diapers from the table.
The second March diaper distribution will be held on Thursday, March 25 from 4:30pm-6:30pm at the Fessenden Center in Buxton. During this Diaper Drive-Thru, families will arrive at the Fessenden Center (46830 Highway 12, Buxton) and drive up to the table at the front of the building. Families will let the staff member at the table know their size needs, and will remain in their vehicles. Staff will hand the diapers through the car window to families.
