Dennis Dalton Mayo, Jr.

Manteo – Dennis Dalton Mayo, Jr, 70, passed away holding his daughters hand the morning of July 18, 2021 in Manteo, NC.

Dennis was born in Richmond, VA on July 5, 1951 and was preceded in death by his loving parents, Dennis Dalton Mayo, Sr and Frances Cornett Mayo, as well as his youngest brother, William Mayo, all of Richmond, VA.

Dennis is survived by his loving children, Andrew D’Amore of Richmond, VA, Rebecca “Becca” Eilert and husband Brad of Manteo, NC; Dennis “Dalton” Mayo III and wife Katarina of Mechanicsville, VA; and two grandsons, Barrett and Brayden Eilert of Manteo, NC. Dennis is also survived by his brother Robert of Richmond.

Dennis was fortunate to have a former spouse, Deborah Loftis Mayo of Richmond, VA, who supported and loved him.

Dennis graduated from J.R. Tucker High School in Richmond, VA in 1970 and was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, proudly serving his country from 1970-1974. Dennis served on the USCG Cutter Mendota in Wilmington, NC from 1970 to 1972 and was an aviation electrician at Air Station Elizabeth City, NC from 1972 to 1974. After serving in the USCG, Dennis owned and operated several restaurants and businesses (Mayo’s Cafe and Flood Zone).

Dennis was quick to tell you how blessed he was and when asked how he felt he always answered, “mostly with my hands”. With a contagious smile and the first to tell a joke to a stranger, it was no surprise he was loved by many. He was always up for a game of bingo and loved word searches.
