Dare County Sheriff’s Office deputy assaulted on Hatteras Island

A man from the Dominican Republican remains in custody following his arrest for allegedly assaulting a Dare County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Hatteras Island last week.

The deputy working the C-District responded to an EMS call on July 12 at approximately 10:30 pm for a person acting unstable at a residence in the 40100 block of Highway 12 in Avon.

The man attacked the deputy, scratching and biting the deputy’s face and attempted to take a Taser and handgun out of the deputy’s holsters during the altercation, according to a DCSO news release.

The deputy was eventually able to subdue the attacker and place him under arrest.

Jorge Ugata Roario, 24, is charged with felony assault on a law enforcement official was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond at the Dare County Detention Center.
