The Dare County Department of Health and Human Services authorized Dare County Schools to immediately institute early release from quarantine options according to CDC guidance on Tuesday.
“The decision is based on local, state, and national data which indicates very low levels of risk of transmission of the virus after 10 days of exposure,” said Dare County Schools Superintendent John Farrelly in an email to parents.
The social distancing requirement to return to school that was previously mandated in 7-day and 10-day quarantine return scenarios is not required now,” Farrelly said.
Farrelly sent another email to parents Wednesday morning after the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) posted a revised K-12 StrongSchools Toolkit:
“The revised StrongSchools Toolkit includes extending the current modified quarantine exception as well as an updated section on what we know about Children and COVID-19, reflecting the latest information on the Delta variant.
“Importantly, the revised Toolkit extends the modified quarantine exception that was previously only applicable when the exposure was between masked students. It will now apply to all individuals (students, teachers, and staff) in schools as long as masking and other layered prevention strategies are in place.
