Dare County reports 16th COVID-19 death

Dare County Health and Human Services on Wednesday reported a 16th COVID-19 death on its daily pandemic dashboard, the first since April.

Health officials have not yet released details on the person who died. That information is included in the health department’s weekly updates on Tuesdays. The county has seen 4,432 COVID-19 cases since testing began last March, with 173 cases currently active among county residents. Among non-residents, there have been 1,468 positive cases since last March.

There are currently seven local residents and five non-residents hospitalized with the virus.

The latest death is Dare County’s first since April.

All individuals 12 and over are encouraged to get the COVID-19 vaccination. COVID-19 vaccinations are readily available at numerous locations throughout the county including the health department and many area pharmacies like Walgreens, CVS, Sunshine Family Pharmacy, Island Pharmacy, Bear Drugs, and Beach Pharmacy.

Since late December 2020, a total of 24,861 (67%) of eligible Dare County residents have received an initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 23,240 (63%) are fully vaccinated.
