Dare County Parks & Recreation to host first annual Family Fun in the Park Block Party

Dare County invites you to attend the Dare County Parks & Recreation Department’s first Family Fun in the Park Block Party, which will take place along Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This free event will feature a cookout, games, scavenger hunts and work vehicle displays, among other activities.

Attendees are encouraged to park at First Flight Elementary School, which is located at 107 Veterans Drive in Kill Devil Hills.

The fun begins at the Veterans Drive entrance to Family Recreation Park (between the baseball fields), where participants will pick up a map that can be stamped at each stop and returned when finished for entry to win several prizes.

Some of the free, family friendly activities that are planned along the block include:

  • Hotdogs and hamburgers served at the Dare County Parks & Recreation Family Recreation Park pavilion
  • A water trivia dunk booth at the Dare County Water Department
  • Sidewalk chalk art activities at the Dare County Library’s Kill Devil Hills branch
  • Grandparents vs. grandkids cornhole competitions at the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center
  • Scavenger hunts at the Dare County Arboretum & Teaching Garden and Aviation Park
  • Emergency services vehicle displays with Dare County EMS and the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department, as well as transportation vehicle displays with the Dare County Transportation System in the Family Recreation Park Youth Center parking lot
  • An Outer Banks Tennis Association activity at the Family Recreation Park tennis courts
  • Various games on the lawn and informational booths featuring multiple Dare County departments
