The Dare County Library has announced that the next local history program—the latest in the Library Enrichment Series for Adults— will be “Millard Blackwell Creef: A Dare County War Hero.”

Samantha Crisp, who serves as director of the Outer Banks History Center, will present this one-hour program at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, just in time for Memorial Day.

Millard Blackwell Creef, a native of Dare County, enlisted in World War II in August 1942. He was killed in Sicily during September 1943, becoming the first person from Dare County to die in action during World War II. Join Crisp for an exploration of Creef’s life and military service as seen in his personal papers held at the Outer Banks History Center in Manteo.

Programs in this series are free for Dare County residents and property owners who are 18 years of age and older; however, registration is required and space is limited. Participants can register up until one hour before the presentation is scheduled to begin.
