Dare County Library to host free ‘Explore Your Local Library’ events

[Dare County Library/Submitted]

In honor of the 12th annual “Take Your Child to the Library Day,” the Dare County Library will host celebratory “Explore Your Local Library” events at all three library locations from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

These free events are open to all families in Dare County and encourage parents and children to visit their local library to learn about the materials, resources and programs that are available to the Outer Banks community.

These events will feature an array of activities, including storytelling, fossil digs, scavenger hunts and a take-home reading challenge. In addition, attendees will have the chance to win prizes and to sign up for library cards for the whole family.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, reading regularly with young children stimulates brain development, strengthens parent-child relationships, and builds language, literacy and social-emotional skills that last a lifetime. Visiting the library on “Take Your Child to the Library Day” shows children that reading is fun and also opens the door for families to keep visiting their libraries year-round to borrow books and DVDs, attend programs, and enjoy free and fun activities.

“Take Your Child to the Library Day” is a librarian-created movement encouraging adults everywhere to take children to the library. All events are free, fun and meant to introduce children to the wonders of reading and their local libraries.

When: Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
