Dare County Hospice seeking volunteer chaplain

Dare Hospice is seeking a volunteer chaplain to coordinate spiritual care of terminally ill patients.

The expected amount of volunteer time is minimal. The volunteer chaplain meets with the patient and family and coordinates spiritual care, prayer, counseling, etc., or whatever the spiritual need may be.

Completion of Hospice volunteer training, background check, physical, and a tuberculosis test are required. All training, physicals, and testing are paid for by the program and are no cost to the volunteer chaplain.

Chaplain volunteers play a very important role in helping patients and their families through difficult times, regardless of the individual’s personal faith background or belief system. Chaplain volunteers assist with a variety of needs, including:

  • Religious support for individuals who are fearful, depressed, or worried/anxious
  • Non-judgmental listening
  • Help in finding a sense of hope, meaning, or purpose
  • Prayer or other religious rituals
