Dare County Arts Council continues Dare Digital Arts program in June

Dare County Arts Council continues its Dare Digital Arts program in June, with a full new slate of virtual concerts, workshops, and readings.

Dare County Arts Council also welcomes a new Dare Digital Arts partner in June, the Outer Banks Community Foundation. The Community Foundation recently awarded the Arts Council a COVID-19 Rapid Response Grant to support the program.

Regional and local bands and musicians will takeover Dare County Arts Council’s Facebook page every Tuesday and Thursday in June at 8pm to perform as a series of Facebook Live events.

Below is a list of the scheduled June performances:

  • Tuesday, June 2: Jeremy Russell
  • Thursday, June 4: Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs
  • Tuesday, June 9: Eric Williams
  • Thursday, June 11: The Ramble
  • Tuesday, June 16: Cole and MaryAnn
  • Thursday, June 18: Just Playing Dixieland
  • Tuesday, June 23: Sandbar Blues
  • Thursday, June 25: Jonny Waters & Company

“I’m excited to be going live from the Arts Council’s headquarters next week,” said musician Jeremy Russell.  “The staff over at DCAC is doing an amazing job in these uncertain times – fostering creativity and providing an outlet for local artists to share their talents with a larger audience.  You can expect acoustic music with vocals and loops of cover tunes, and I’ll probably throw in an original just for fun! Hope you can join me on Facebook Live – June 2nd at 8pm!”

New for June, Dare County Arts Council is partnering with Paul Mazzei to launch “Nature Out Loud: Boogie in the Backyard,” which is a virtual music series for children that will take place on DCAC’s Facebook page on Wednesdays at 10am.

Below is a list of the scheduled June performances:

  • Wednesday, June 10: Rockin’ Reptiles: Turtles, Dinosaurs, and More!
  • Wednesday, June 17: Wild in the Wetlands: Frogs and Friends
  • Wednesday, June 24: Living in the Ocean: Sea Stars to Sharks

“Nature Out Loud! plays upbeat, fun, family-friendly tunes inspired by the wild world around us,” said musician Paul Mazzei. “We perform original music about interesting animals, the ocean and natural history topics, and also cover songs with worthwhile positive messages. With each song we perform we hope to make you move and make you wonder a little bit at the same time!”

Mari LaRose will be teaching another virtual kids art class on Dare County Arts Council’s Facebook page on Thursday, June 18 at 10am.

Literary artists will go live on Dare County Arts Council’s Facebook page at 7pm on Wednesdays in June to share excerpts from their work, discuss the craft of writing and their current projects, and answer questions from viewers. Former North Carolina Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 and author Kristy Woodson Harvey is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17.
All of the Dare Digital Arts events are free and open to the public.

While sharing their talents, most of the artists will include virtual ways you can tip them or share information where you can purchase their work.

The Dare Digital Arts program’s presenting sponsor is TowneBank, who is committed to celebrating the arts while supporting new initiatives that are safe, meaningful and innovative.
A special thank you to the Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series, JAM Media Solutions, East Carolina Radio, Bearded Face Productions and Graham Outten Music for supporting The Courthouse Sessions.
