Dare County Arts Council is seeking entries for the 24th Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show, which will open on Saturday, May 1.

Artists wishing to participate in this year’s exhibition can find a prospectus and sign up for a specific time to drop off their work online at DareArts.org/molliefearingshow and at the DCAC Gallery.

Seagreen Gallery owner and artist Susan Evans will judge the 2021 Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show. Susan graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in art photography. She opened Seagreen Gallery in Nags Head with her family in 2010, and has since opened a second location in Duck.

The show is held in memory of Mollie A. Fearing, one of the founders of Dare County Arts Council, and is known for showcasing vibrant, eclectic artwork.

“My mother always saw the beauty in everyone’s art, just as she saw in every person she met,” said Grizelle Fearing. “I am looking forward to seeing all of the artwork in this year’s show.”

The exhibition will be open for viewing in Dare County Arts Council’s Courtroom Gallery during normal gallery hours from May 1 to May 29.

Best In Show and Excellence Award recipients will be announced the week following the opening day. The People’s Choice Award recipient will be announced the day the show closes, as guests who visit the show will be able to vote on the People’s Choice piece throughout the month.

“Dare County Arts Council gave me the opportunity to enter the Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show in 2020, and I was in mighty good company,” said 2020 Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show Best In Show award recipient Julien McCarthy. “The way I see it, the artists represented in this show are stupendous. My 2020 entry, jovially named “Irrevocable Union” is a very large wooden urn. I was delightfully surprised to win Best In Show in 2020. Thanks so much to the Fearing family and the Dare County Arts Council.”

Due to the current restrictions in place for mass gatherings, there will not be a formal opening reception at the DCAC Gallery for this year’s show.
