Dare County Arts Council is seeking entries for the 23rd Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show, which will now be held in July.
The Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show usually opens in May, but had to be rescheduled due to Covid-19.
“We are elated that we are still able to bring the Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show to the community this year,” said Dare County Arts Council staff member Louise Sanderlin. “With that being said, there have been quite a few changes put in place to ensure the show can go on in a safe and responsible way.”
Artists wishing to participate in this year’s exhibition can find a prospectus online at DareArts.org/molliefearingshow and at the DCAC Gallery.
Please note that there is a new protocol for artwork drop-off to reduce pedestrian traffic inside the DCAC Gallery. Artists can sign up for a specific day and time to drop off their artwork online at DareArts.org/molliefearingshow.
The show is held in memory of Mollie A. Fearing, one of the founders of Dare County Arts Council, and is known for showcasing vibrant, eclectic artwork.
“My mom was such a loving, caring soul,” said owner of Mollie A. Fearing & Associates and Mollie Fearing’s daughter Grizelle Fearing. “I carry her life lessons with me and will my entire life. Early on she taught me that everyone has something to give, even if all they can give is their time. Her world of art was introduced into my earliest memories, one of which was her worrying over an oil painting she wanted to enter into a contest when we lived in Miami.
“This piece hangs proudly in my office. From there, art swirled around us always, from those first organizational meetings of the Dare County Arts Council to visiting every art museum and exhibit we could find. Her joy of collecting art now fills my home and my heart.”
Due to the current restrictions in place for mass gatherings, there will not be a formal opening reception at the DCAC Gallery for this year’s Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show.
Best In Show and Excellence Award recipients will be announced the week following the opening day. The People’s Choice Award recipient will be announced the day the show closes, as guests who visit the show at the DCAC Gallery will be able to vote on the People’s Choice piece throughout the month.
The show will be open for viewing during normal gallery hours from July 3 to July 31.
