The Dare County Arts Council is now seeking entries for the 22nd Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show.

The show is held in memory of Mollie A. Fearing, one of the founders of Dare County Arts Council, and is known for showcasing vibrant, eclectic artwork.

2019 judge Annalee L. Lanier.

Photographer and artist Annalee Lanier will judge the show. After earning her BFA at Cooper Union in New York City, she spent fifteen years in California before moving to the Outer Banks in 2017. Her commercial design work spans across multiple fields including television, film, music, product packaging and interior design. Annalee’s photography is inspired by the hidden beauty of the familiar.

“I am delighted to judge the 2019 Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show,” said Annalee Lanier. “It is always inspiring to see new work from the talented community here in Dare County, and I look forward to spending time with the art and the artists at the reception in May!”

An opening reception will be held at the DCAC Gallery in Manteo on Sunday, May 5 from 2pm-4pm.

“Since the art show falls on May 5th, which is Cinco de Mayo, this year’s food theme will coincide with that celebration,” said owner of Mollie A. Fearing & Associates and Mollie Fearing’s daughter Grizelle Fearing. “Come out and enjoy the art show, mingle with friends and savor the flavors of our Mexican-American cultures.”

There will be multiple awards presented at the opening reception, including the prestigious Best In Show Award and The Outer Banks Forum’s Excellence Award.

“The Outer Banks Forum for the Lively Arts will again select one of the pieces in the show to grace the Playbill cover for our 2019-2020 season,” said Eddie Cooke, President of the Outer Banks Forum for the Lively Arts. “The Playbill is distributed to over 500 individuals and business throughout the Outer Banks.”

Artists wishing to participate in this year’s exhibition can find a prospectus online at DareArts.org/molliefearingshow and at the DCAC Gallery.

The Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show is open to Dare County Arts Council members and non-members. Works by artists under the age of 18 are subject to DCAC Program Committee approval. Artwork can be dropped off on Wednesday, May 1 or Thursday, May 2 between 10am and 5pm at the DCAC Gallery, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo, NC 27954. All mediums, except video and projection, are welcome.

The 22nd Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show will remain on display through June 1.
