The Currituck Beach Lighthouse in Corolla reopened for climbing today.
Safety measures are in place, including open windows, gloves upon check-in, sanitizers and required mask-wearing. The lighthouse is open to the public every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The lighthouse celebrates its 145th anniversary of the first lighting of the brick tower this December, and has been undergoing a face-lift that began in the winter.
The lighthouse is owned and operated by the Outer Banks Conservationists and is not part of the National Park Service, which won’t have a climbing season this year at the Bodie Island and Cape Hatteras lighthouses.
