Currituck County 4-H Sharpshooters team members Kilynn Brinkley, Emma Solley and Chloe Fredrick recently competed as members of the NC 4-H State Shooting Sports delegation that competed at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament in Grand Island Nebraska, June 25-30, 2023.
The 2023 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships consist of competitive tournaments in compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading, and hunting skills. This years national competition was the largest ever and saw 718 participants from 42 states competing in one or more of the above disciplines. NC 4-H Shooting Sports was one of seven states with at least one team competing in each of the above disciplines.
Emma Solley was a member of the NC 4-H Small Bore (.22) Rifle Team which finished 9th in team rifle competion and 5th in the 3P competition.
Kilynn Brinkley, competing at the national level for the second time, was a member of the NC Small Bore Pistol team. The NC pistol team placed 6th in team competition and Kilynn placed 10th overall individual.
Chloe Frederick was a member of the NC 4-H Air Rifle team which placed 8th in the competition and she placed 9th overall individual.
These outstanding young ladies devoted countless hours practicing and training with their Coaches Kathy Melton, Malcolm Murray, Jason Fredrick and Eric Brinkley here in Currituck, and they also traveled to Ellerbe, NC each month for NC team practice, training, and instruction. Their dedication and commitment to excellence was key to their success-Congratulations Emma, Kilynn and Chloe!
