Dare County Arts Council invites you to downtown Manteo on Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2 for two special days filled with art, family-friendly fun, and community spirit.

The first look of The Great Art Heist in Dare County Arts Council’s Courtroom Gallery is on Friday, October 1. At 6 p.m. sharp guests can start bidding on over 100 pieces of visual art and numerous performing arts experiences while listening to live Jazz by Devin Frazier and Brandon Beugless.

“The Great Art Heist is our major fundraiser of 2021,” said DCAC President Richard Phillips. “Gather a group of friends, head over to Manteo to enjoy some live music and libations, and then make out like a bandit in The Great Art Heist! When you bid in The Heist, you are supporting the Arts in Dare County, including programs like the Artrageous Kids Art Festival and Outer Banks Veterans Week.”

Bring your smartphone for easy bidding on opening night. DCAC staff will be on-site to assist with bidding. You can also bid online through October 29 at DareArts.org/artauction.

Friday, October 1 is also First Friday in Manteo from 6pm to 8pm. DCAC will have musician Katie Bender performing in the Courtyard, and Susannah Sakal’s mixed media exhibit The Energy That Creates Worlds is opening in the Vault Gallery.

“It is during the process of creating art where I become engaged, connected and inspired,” said artist Susannah Sakal. “I experiment endlessly to manifest the vision I hold in my mind, and it is infinitely gratifying to be a participant in this transformation of energy from the imagined to the visible. I am looking forward to sharing my art and meeting people at the opening reception on Friday.”

From 10am to 4pm on Saturday, October 2 DCAC will be hosting Opening Day for the Courtyard, with five different art events plus interactive art activities for all ages including a fill in the mandala mural painted by Hatteras Island artist Randi O’Sullivan.

Below is the schedule of Opening Day events:

10am: Nature Out Loud Interactive Music Show for Kids
11am: Downtown Books Author Parapalooza
12pm: Theatre of Dare’s Selections from Little Shop of Horrors
