A community meeting will be held on Monday, September 23 to hear the results of the Roanoke Island Drainage Analysis Report conducted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Following extensive flooding on northern Roanoke Island, the Dare County Board of Commissioners requested NCDOT undertake an analysis of drainage issues in the area.
The flooding was a result of 11 days of heavy rainfall in July 2018.
The county spent $50,000 to have 1.5 million gallons of water pumped from impacted properties and the North Carolina Forest Service pumped an additional 1.4 million gallons of water from the area.
The report will be presented by the consulting firm, Moffatt & Nichol, the firm commissioned by NCDOT to complete the engineering study of drainage issues.
The meeting will be held Monday, September 23 at 5 p.m. in the Dare County Board of Commissioners meeting room located adjacent to the Dare County Administration Building, 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo.
Members of the Dare County Board of Commissioners and staff will be present at the meeting. Notice of the meeting was sent to property owners who attended an August 2018 meeting regarding the flooding issues and to Roanoke Island property owners in the impacted areas where stormwater pumping occurred.
