The Currituck County Board of Commissioners plan to appoint Assistant County Manager Rebecca Gay as the county’s interim manager following the resignation of former manager Donald ‘Ike” McRee, Jr.

Bob White, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, said the Board intends to officially appoint Gay during its April 1, 2024, public meeting at the Historic Courthouse. According to White, Gay will serve as interim manager while the county conducts a search for a permanent County Manager.

“I’m pleased that Rebecca is available and willing to answer the call when needed,” White said. “We look forward to working with her.”

Gay was named Assistant County Manager by McRee on July 1, 2022, and has played a large role in the county’s budget process. Prior to that, she served as Assistant to the County Manager under former manager Ben Stikeleather.

Gay originally joined the Currituck County staff on March 29, 2010, as the Deputy Coordinator in the Emergency Management Department. She has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from the College of Charleston.
