UPDATED: Colington man faces multiple charges after police chase

A Colington man is jailed in lieu of $383,000 bond in connection with a pursuit Wednesday afternoon.

The Dare County Narcotics Task Force was conducting a drug investigation on Dixie R. Smith and initiated a traffic stop, Dare Sheriff Doug Doughtie said in a news release.

Smith, of Huron Court, fled in his vehicle and then on foot in that area, the release said. He was quickly apprehended after the foot pursuit and has been charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine and felony flee to elude arrest, the sheriff said.

The sheriff’s office added several more charges Thursday, including possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule 1 controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and two counts of maintain a vehicle, place or dwelling by person with a controlled substance.

Smith remained at the Dare County Detention Center Thursday under a $383,000.00 bond.
