Coastal leaders to hold offshore drilling roundtable Wednesday in Manteo

Coastal leaders and state officials are to meet Wednesday with North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Secretary Michael Regan for a mayoral roundtable discussion of offshore drilling.

NCDEQ, Dare County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bob Woodard and Nags Head Mayor Ben Cahoon will host the mayors and officials who will discuss coastal protection, with an emphasis on offshore oil and gas exploration and seismic testing risks, coastal community engagement and federal rule making, the state agency announced Tuesday.

The discussion is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Dare County Center, 950 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo.

Meeting with Regan will be Braxton Davis, director of the Division of Coastal Management; Steve Murphey, director of the Division of Marine Fisheries; Bob Woodard, Dare County Board of Commissioners chairman; J. Andrew Sayre, mayor of Bald Head Island; Ricky Credle, mayor of Belhaven; Don Kingston, mayor of Duck; Bettie J. Parker, mayor of Elizabeth City; Horace C. Reid Jr., mayor of Hertford; Bobby Owens, mayor of Manteo; Ben Cahoon, mayor of Nags Head; Brian Roth, mayor of Plymouth; Tom Bennett, mayor of Southern Shores; Douglas Medlin, mayor of Surf City; John Davis, mayor of Swansboro; and Tom Bennett, mayor of Topsail Beach.
