College of The Albemarle (COA) is gearing up for the summer semester and offering a variety of face-to-face, virtual, and online courses for students.
The college has increased the number of in-person classes this summer in an effort to address the needs of current and prospective students.
There will be more than 25 face-to-face classes offered in the Arts and Sciences division over the course of the summer session at COA-Elizabeth City and COA-Dare, a substantial increase in what has been offered during the previous three summer semesters.
Most of these courses meet the general education requirements for degrees at COA as well as those as at a four-year university, making it beneficial for students who may be returning home for the summer wanting to take an extra class or two.
In addition, the college will offer a variety of web conferencing and online classes for individuals who are unable to attend in person or who need flexibility within their summer schedule.
“Whether a student is new, returning or spending the summer at home from a four-year institution, COA has summer classes available to meet their general education requirements allowing them to get a step up on the next academic year,” explained Lisa Meads, dean, Arts and Sciences at COA. “Face-to-face classes will have limited seating capacity to allow for social distancing, so students who are interested in attending in person should begin the registration process today.”
Registration is open now for the summer and fall semesters. The summer semester begins May 17.
Mrs. Meads also shared preparations for course offerings in the fall.
“The college plans to offer a variety of face-to-face, web conferencing, and online courses to meet the varying needs of our students. We will continue to adjust the fall schedule based on student registration trends. If we see that more students are signing up for classes on campus than what we currently have scheduled, then we will respond by moving to a larger classroom or opening up additional sections. Faculty and staff are excited to have more students back on campus and in the classroom as we return to some normalcy,” she said.
Students attending face-to-face classes are expected to follow the guidelines of the college with regard to wearing a face covering while in campus buildings and outside when social distancing cannot be maintained.
Disposable masks are available at the front desk for those who need one. Hand sanitizing stations are located across all campus buildings, and classrooms are cleaned and disinfected throughout the day.
