With dramatic lifestyle shifts come dramatic lifestyle choices. The extra time we’ve been spending at home during the pandemic has contributed to a spike in puppy adoption across the country in August 2022.
According to a study based on data from over 500,000 adopted dogs and related Google search traffic volumes, the Top 5 favored breeds in the Tarheel State are as follows:
1. Labrador Retriever
2. Mutt
3. Chihuahua
4. Pit Bull
5. Beagle
Labradors are proving to be the most popular breeds, coming on top in almost every state at 72%. Overall, North Carolina ranks #30 as the Most Puppy-Loving State in the US, as seen in the chart featured below where New Hampshire takes the #1 spot.
The study also shows that the most popular name for pampered pooches in North Carolina is “Bella.” A mutual 14 other states also rank Bella as their top name.
