Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. has announced that the dredges Ellis Island and Liberty Island have made significant progress over this past week.

As of Wednesday morning, August 10, 2022, over 90 percent of the total contract volume (1.2 million cubic yards of sand) has been placed in the Buxton beach nourishment project area, and the project is expected to be completed next week.

The dredge Ellis Island left the job site on the evening of Tuesday, August 9, 2022, to head to Norfolk, Virginia, after working in Buxton for six days. The dredge Liberty Island will alternately pump through the two sublines and finish the rest of the contract volume for the project.
