Beach Food Pantry is looking for youth leaders from every school across Dare County, as well as homeschool and College of the Albemarle representatives, to form the Beach Food Pantry Youth Advisory Board.

The Beach Food Pantry Youth Advisory Board will offer youth from diverse backgrounds a chance to participate in a leadership development program, while acting as ambassadors for the Beach Food Pantry in their own communities. The Youth Advisory Board is being created to amplify the voices of our local youth and contribute to Beach Food Pantry programming, while providing young people with a unique opportunity to be drivers of their own ideas from conceptualization to implementation and reflection.

“We are incredibly excited to get the Youth Board up and running. It will be a great opportunity to raise awareness about the Beach Food Pantry and the issues of hunger, to instill a sense of philanthropy and to hopefully teach some life skills (budgeting, planning, teamwork, etc.) to a great group of local kids,” said Beach Food Pantry Board Member, Matt Melvin.

Beach Food Pantry is working with Dare County Schools, College of the Albemarle and other organizations to identify young people enrolled in 5th grade through undergraduate college-level courses who are interested in partnering with other youth from around the county who are passionate about making a difference. Youth Advisory Board members will be required to demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerism, philanthropy and ending hunger in Dare County. Members will also be encouraged to represent Beach Food Pantry at special events.

Community, youth, and faith-based organizations, as well as educators, are invited to encourage youth who are interested to contact Beach Food Pantry’s Executive Director, Elisabeth Silverthorne, at 252-261-2756. The Beach Food Pantry Youth Advisory Board members will be announced in mid-September 2021. For more information about Beach Food Pantry, please visit www.BeachFoodPantry.org.

Beach Food Pantry is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that envisions a hunger-free Dare County. Founded in 1992, the Beach Food Pantry reaches out and provides nutritional assistance to Dare County residents in collaboration with our community.

By the generosity of our donors, we offer hope to the estimated 5,680 people in Dare County who are food insecure – 1,550 of whom are children. We also offer our commitment – to every Dare County resident – that we will be prepared to do our part should our Outer Banks community ever be affected by a natural disaster.
