UPDATED, Thursday 5 p.m.: Repairs to the broken water main have been completed and normal water service has been restored to the Village of Avon.
“Dare County water users in Avon no longer need to conserve water, and no water system pressure advisory is needed,” the county said in a statement.
EARLIER STORY: The water main that connects Avon with Dare County’s water plant in Buxton has suffered a break for the third time in the past month, and customers in the Village of Avon are being asked to conserve water.
“The repair crews are currently working on the water line break this morning; however, it will be at least four or five hours before the break is repaired,” according to a Dare County news release.
Later in the afternoon, the county said repairs were underway but had been delayed due to a part that had to be acquired.
