On Oct. 24th at 5:30 p.m., the Outer Banks History Center will be hosting a talk by author Larry Tise on his newly published edition of Theodore de Bry’s America.

Theodore de Bry (1528-98) is best known for his volumes of early North Carolina history, which include beautiful engravings based on John White’s original watercolors brought back from Sir Walter Raleigh’s colony.

Many early editions of de Bry’s books were hand-colored, and since 2006, Tise has traveled across Europe and America examining all known and accessible copies of these hand-colored books.

The Outer Banks History Center invites members of the public to join us in a discussion with Tise on his work to find and publish these beautiful works. Light refreshments will be served, and copies of Tise’s book will be made available for purchase at the event.

The Outer Banks History Center is located at Roanoke Island Festival Park across from the downtown Manteo waterfront. For questions, please contact Samantha Crisp, director of the Outer Banks History Center, at 252-473-2655.
