Previous story: After a line of thunderstorms moved through the region Saturday night, another system is forecast to produce strong-to-severe storms for the second straight evening.
At least one transformer exploded at Arch Street and North Croatan Highway, knocking out power to 1,200 customers in Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk at one point, as storms produced heavy rain, gusty winds and numerous lightning strikes Saturday evening.
Sunday has started out warm and muggy, with patchy dense sea fog on a southerly breeze. A few heavy showers and some embedded thunderstorms were moving into inland areas of northeastern North Carolina just after sunrise.
The bulk of the scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms extended across the Blue Ridge Mountains this morning out ahead of a cold front.
The strongest storms are forecast to arrive in eastern North Carolina late afternoon through evening, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service. Damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes will be possible.

Once the front clears, we are expecting dry conditions and seasonably cool temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. There will be a brief warmup on Wednesday ahead of another cold front that will bring another shot of cool weather into Easter weekend.
Marine conditions will vary due to the multiple weather systems crossing the area.
