Afternoon and evening severe thunderstorms possible this weekend on Outer Banks

Showers and thunderstorms are possibility a across eastern North Carolina, with some that could be severe this weekend.

Forecasters at the Newport/Morehead City office of the National Weather Service say there is an isolated threat of strong to severe storms late in the day Saturday, and a better chance of severe weather Sunday.

Some of the storms could produce thunderstorm wind gusts could exceed 60 mph that could damage trees and power lines, resulting in scattered power outages. Large hail and isolated tornadoes are also a possibility.

A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 65. Northeast wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a chance of showers. Patchy fog after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. East wind around 9 mph becoming south after midnight.
