23rd Dare County resident dies from COVID-19; total positives tests have topped 4,200

A 23rd Dare County resident has died from complications of COVID-19, and more than 4,200 cases have now been documented in the county since the pandemic started in March 2020.

The latest death was a woman between the ages of 50 and 64, but no other information was released about the first death reported since November 9.

Two residents were hospitalized because of the coronavirus according to Monday’s update from Dare County Health and Human Services.

On the mainland, four additional deaths were reported in the Albemarle Regional Health Services territory last week, with two in Pasquotank County, one in Chowan County and one in Bertie County.

North Carolina’s average for new COVID cases was up for a ninth day on Monday, and the highest since Oct. 29, with a daily average of just under 2-thousand new cases.

More than 90 percent of federal workers have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by Monday’s deadline set by President Joe Biden. Workers who are not in compliance are set to begin a “counseling” process that could ultimately result in their termination if they don’t get a shot or secure an approved exception.
